The Code
Okay, so I've watched DaVinci Code. I've actually read it as well. I read the book in secret to be exact, so that I wouldn't get into any trouble for doing so. My father is a pastor you see, and I was raised in a strong christian family and my dad really means it. Since I was young, I was raised to believe about Jesus' life according to the Bible and after reading the book and watching the movie, ironically I still do believe what they taught me to believe.
Why?
Okay, so Dan Brown claims that there is actually a sect called 'Priory of Sion' who are the keepers of the secret that is said to destroy the foundations of the church because they claim that Jesus indeed had a wife in the person of Mary Magdalene and had a daughter named Sarah. The Priory protects the bloodline up to this day and is believed to have the secret location of Mary Magdalene's tomb.
Big deal.
First of all, the book is fictional. Dan Brown said that many times. It's true that reality mirrors fiction and fiction mirrors reality but Brown said that he wrote the book because he wanted to release the 'other' side of the story. If you lost your faith by reading the book, then it only shows that you do not have a strong foundation at all.
Second, would it affect your faith in God if Jesus indeed had a wife and daughter? Would it tarnish his divinity? Isn't it enough that He died for you and me?
Third, we believe in what we choose to believe in. As Langdon said, "What matters most is what you choose to believe in..." and I choose to believe in what I already believe in. I believe in Jesus, that He died for the sins of man and lived a life that is pleasing to God. Whether the claims of the book is true or not, it's up to us to decide in which side you believe in.
In this world, nothing is sure to be true. Lies are everywhere and we sometimes fall for what may seem to be true. Only one thing is for sure though, only God and God alone can know the truth.
May the truth set us all free.
To God be the Glory.
